Internet Ads
Blinking, bouncing, glittering, waving, spinning...every day I am online, most of the advertisements I see do one of those, or something even more annoying. I understand that businesses want their ads to stand out and be seen amidst a myriad of others. I have also been told that the point of ads isn't necessarily to make a person buy products, but to imprint a certain brand/company/etc. on a person's mind. However, I do not see these flash ads as working to achieve that. First, they all seem so similar, how can anyone tell the difference between one to the next? Also, as someone who is very sensitive to light, 'moving' ads bother my eyes and tend to make me dizzy. I cannot speak for others, but when there is such an ad on my screen, I move the window over or shrink it without even looking to see what is being advertised. As someone who has recently begun making computer graphic artwork, I can assure advertising departments that there are a lot of attractive, non-seizure-inducing methods to make people want to look twice at whatever they are trying to sell. These methods aren't that hard, either, if they know how to use Photoshop or similar programs. So if you know someone in the Internet advertising business, pass along this message for me: please, stop with the blinkies already! |
